WHY BOKASHI?

Bokashi, Japanese for "fermented organic matter", is a method of composting in which you ferment food scraps in order to

aid in the breakdown of organic matter.

It also mitigates smells and deter pests and pathogens.

When using Bokashi,

you can also more safely include meat & dairy products in your compost collection.

The method can be used in lieu of or in addition to other composting methods in order to improve soil structure,

restore the native soil microbiome,

and optimize plant growth and productivity.

Compost Queens diverts coffee chaff, a byproduct of the coffee roasting process to make our Bokashi Flakes. We make all our Bokashi Flakes by hand in small batches to ensure quality.

The Compost Queens diverts food scraps from the landfill and returns them to local farms. We're transforming our soil to transform the Earth and our community.

Reduce Landfill Waste

Food waste in landfills
produces methane and
other greenhouse gasses.

Support Local Farms

We partner with local community gardens and urban farms to provide our "black gold"
nutrient-rich soil builder
to local garden beds.

Pest and Stink* Free

Our anaerobic, Bokashi system prevents pests and pesky smells*.

*fermented food has

a mild, sweet odor
